Road Trip!

66504_372913539453163_418679728_nOn Saturday, April 27, we will get in the caravan and head to the Czech Village neighborhood of Cedar Rapids for a day filled with food and fun! This day is going to start with a visit to the fantastic local-foods marketplace NewBo City Market, where we can shop and eat and be inspired by a venue that we would love to see replicated in the Quad Cities sooner rather than later (check out their web site for a list of the many, many vendors there). The afternoon will allow time for a visit to a famed Czech bakery and touring your choice of a variety of local attractions, and we’ll regroup for dinner. Here’s the day’s schedule:

9:30 am: Meet at Thunder Bay parking lot on N. Brady for carpools.
11:00 am: Arrive at NewBo. Free time to eat lunch at one of their many restaurants, shop, etc.
1:00 pm: regroup and head to Czech Village for bakery visit and touring time
1:30 pm: Visit Sykora Bakery, receive a tour and eat ALL the kolaches!
2:15 pm: Free time in Czech Village and New Bohemia. We will provide a guide to the neighborhood’s shops, museums, restaurants and bars so you can enjoy the afternoon just the way you like it. Some attractions include the Village Meat Market (“If it’s legal, we smoke it”), National Czech & Slovak Museum, African American Museum of Iowa, arts and gallery spaces, shops and boutiques and more. Or you can go back to NewBo City Market for a closer look. Or spend the afternoon at Parlor City Pub and investigate their 56 beers on tap… as long as you’re not the designated driver. 🙂
5:00 pm: Regroup and head to Bata’s for dinner. After dinner, the caravan returns to the Quad Cities.

You have the option to skip dinner (a portion of the caravan may return to the QCA before dinner), or meet us in Cedar Rapids if you want to make a weekend of it, etc. We’re just providing the carpool option for those who are interested in sticking with our schedule and saving on gas expenditures.

If you would like to join us, RSVP as soon as possible. We are looking forward to a fun trip with a big group! RSVP is important so we can make dinner reservations and so on. So please, if you plan on coming, email us at ASAP with two pieces of information:
1. How many will be in your party
2. Whether you will be meeting us for the carpool
If you have any questions about this event, please let me know. I can’t wait to road trip with you!
